Adrift

(This post contains no political messages whatsoever.)

Imagine you were lost at sea. You have been adrift for days and days. All around you, you see nothing but sea and sky. What feelings arise as you imagine this? Fear? Desperation? Hopelessness? Imagine your thirst, your hunger. You could paddle, but what’s the point? Paddle to what?

Now imagine, after what seems like an eternity, you see a light in the distance. Is it a boat? A lighthouse? Now what feelings arise? Courage? Hope? I bet you would paddle now!

The year 2020 has had me feeling a bit lost at sea. Lost in a sea of corona virus, politics, riots, climate change, you name it. Massive oceans that I cannot navigate. You may (or may not) have noticed that I have not written many blog posts this year. This is why. I have not been able to navigate my thoughts. My mind has felt adrift. But I have picked up my paddle, and I am headed toward the only light that rescues.

There has never been and never will be anyone else who:

was bruised and brought healing,
was pierced and eased pain,
was persecuted and brought freedom,
was dead and brought life.

Jesus is the only one who reigns and offers true peace.

In gratitude,

Shawn
